Living in Los Angeles, we are lucky to have access to incredible farmers markets year-round. Kids love to sample the freshly harvested fruit and vegetables, chat with the farmers and learn to taste the difference in taste between a peach from the grocery store, and a local peach that was picked yesterday. But living in Los Angeles gives our children another incredibly valuable opportunity: to actually visit the farms where their food comes from.
Exploring the farms where our food grows is an invaluable experience for kids. They can talk to the farmers, dig their fingers into the nutrient rich earth and see first hand how carrots are pulled from the rich earth, how eggplant deepens into dark shades of purple on low-lying plants and how sweet, juicy citrus dangles just above their heads in fragrent trees.
